Sunday, September 25th at 11am at Pacifica’s Fogfest, Asia and the Arabesque troupe present the history of girl pirates from around the world. The show is based on the book “Booty” Famous Girl Pirates of the High Seas by Sara Lorimer.

PRLog (Press Release) – Sep 20, 2011 – Colorfully costumed dancers will pay tribute to such historical girl pirates as Anne Bonnie, Charlotte Du Berry (the ghost pirate), Cheng I-Sao, Mary Read, Grace O’Malley, the Indian Queen pirate and the “real” pirates of the Carribean. Viewers will be transported through time and across the globe as each character is presented. The audience will learn a few facts about each of these remarkable women and their adventures at sea through the art of belly dance. This performance is intended to educate and entertain everyone about women pirates in history and their accomplishments and claims to fame. The performance will be accompanied with live music by the Arabesque Drummers and feature exciting new unique instruments.
Asia has been a professional belly dance teacher and performer for 30 years. She is an award winning choreographer, Director of Arabesque Belly Dancers and Drummers. Asia was a career dancer who earned her living as a dancer for over 20 years in San Francisco’s finest restaurants and Arabic nightclubs. Her performances include The San Francisco Opera, San Francisco 49ers, Private parties for J.Paul Getty and family and Hollywood producer David Jacobs and numerous other corporate and private parties. She is passionate about the art of belly dance and handing the Roots of Raks traditions to the new creative generation of dancers.
The Arabesque troupe has been an enchanting part of the Fogfest for the last eight years and delivered stellar performances for all attendees. The troupe is based in Pacifica and is strongly supported by the local community. Asia and Arabesque dancers have been spotted performing at other venues in Pacifica and throughout the Bay Area. Asia teaches classes at Ocean Yoga studio in Pacifica and City Dance in San Francisco for all levels of dance. The fogfest is a free event and Asia & Arabesque invite everyone to come watch and be entertained as they present this year’s performance “Booty”-historical women pirates and their claims to fame.
